"Learning programming can be done in a fun way". That's the message to be conveyed at the service conducted by the service team of the Department of Computer Science/Informatics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Universitas Diponegoro. The dedication entitled “programming training through Fun Programming for teachers at SD Islam Pangeran Diponegoro Semarang” took place at SD Islam Pangeran Diponegoro, Tembalang, Semarang on Friday, March 17, 2023. This service is one of the means to introduce the concept of computational thinking to the academic community of basic education in a fun way.
Computational thinking or computational thinking is a way of thinking to solve a problem. The trick is to decompose each problem into parts or stages that are effective and efficient. Computational thinking can be introduced in several ways. One of the ways used is to learn programming. For some people, programming is a scary thing because of the complicated concepts and ways. This discourages children from learning programming. Therefore, in order to foster interest in programming in children, programming with fun concepts or fun programming needs to be introduced
In this service opportunity, the service team of the Department of Computer Science / Informatics consists of 4 lecturers, namely Rismiyati, B.Eng, M.Cs; Satriyo Adhy, S.Si, M.T; Muhammad Malik Hakim S.T., M.T.I; and Dr. Drs. Catur Edi Widodo, M.T; and assisted by 5 students from the Department of Computer Science/Informatics. The Target of this dedication itself is the class teachers at SD Islam Pangeran Diponegoro. This Target was chosen because these teachers will introduce programming at the elementary level to their students.
A total of approximately 30 teachers attended this training. The training began with the opening by the principal of Diponegoro Islamic elementary school, Ibu Dewi Widayani. After the welcome and photo session, Rismiyati, B.Eng, M.Cs. In the presentation of this material, participants are invited to understand and learn how to make a simple program using the blockly website. Participants learn about simple programming algorithms that can be created in a fun way. At the end of the session, participants were asked to solve problems with a simple program with existing devices and assisted by a service team. In this way, it is expected that trainees are able to practice and then teach their students simple programming concepts in a fun way.
