Strengthening the competitiveness of MSMEs through social Media-based Digital Marketing Training in Mayong District, Jepara Regency
Social Media today has become one of the most widely used digital marketing tools by various businesses. This is due to a number of advantages, including the ability to reach users from various regions, relatively low operational costs, ease of Use, and flexibility in delivering information. With these advantages, many business actors including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia began to utilize social media as a marketing tool for their products. Through social media, MSMEs can increase product visibility and expand market reach. Therefore, an appropriate digital marketing strategy is needed to support an increase in the number of consumers and business income.
Digital marketing strategies can be done by optimizing the use of social media effectively. This includes content management as well as capturing interesting and informative product images. In order to support MSMEs, the community service team of the Department of Informatics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University (FSM UNDIP) organized training activities with a focus on optimizing social media for MSMEs. This activity aims to increase the capacity of MSMEs in utilizing social media strategically for marketing purposes. The training materials are structured to provide theoretical understanding as well as practical skills that are relevant to the needs of participants. This service is expected to have a positive impact on the development of digital-based businesses.
The implementation of this service activity took place on February 26, 2025 at the Mayong District Office, Jepara Regency. The training participants consisted of MSME actors from Mayong Sub-District, which amounted to about 25 people. The event was officially opened with a speech from Camat Mayong, Mrs. Umrotun, S.Sos., M.H., and Chairman of the Department of Informatics FSM UNDIP, Dr. Aris Sugiharto, S.Si., M.Kom. The core activities consist of two main training sessions, namely social media content optimization training and training in interesting product image shooting techniques. The training material includes an introduction to the types of social media that are most widely used by Indonesians, content creation strategies that can reach a wider audience, as well as visual approaches that are able to increase the attractiveness of products in the eyes of consumers.
The activity, which lasted for approximately three hours, received a positive response from the participants. After the activity, Mrs. Umrotun, S.Sos., M.H., expressed his appreciation and assessed that this training is very useful in improving the understanding of MSME actors regarding the use of social media to support marketing activities. In addition, training in product shooting techniques is also very helpful, because it provides practical solutions for MSMEs to produce interesting visual content by maximizing the use of mobile phone cameras, without the need for expensive equipment. The evaluation given by the participants and the kecamatan showed that this activity plays an important role in strengthening the competitiveness of MSMEs in a sustainable manner. The success of this activity is expected to be the first step in increasing the digital capacity of MSME actors in the future.
