The Diponegoro University Informatics study Program held a community service activity on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Mayong District Office Hall, Jepara Regency. This activity focuses on efforts to improve the competitiveness of MSMEs through training and mentoring in the use of e-commerce websites. The event opened with a speech from the head of Mayong, Mrs. Umrotun, S.Sos., M.H., which emphasizes the importance of digital transformation for rural MSMEs. The speech was also delivered by the chairman of the Department of Informatics, Dr. Aris Sugiharto, S.Si., M.Comm., which affirms the University's commitment in making a real contribution to society through the application of Science and technology.
This activity was initiated by the dedication team from the Department of Informatics, chaired by Ragil Saputra, S.Si., M.Cs., with members of Dr. Helmie Arif Wawa, S.Si, M.Cs, Rismiyati, B.Eng, M.Cs, Khadijah, S.Comm. M.Cs and Sandy Kurniawan, S.Kom, M.Kom. The team designed the program in stages, starting with a survey of MSME needs, e-commerce platform development, to intensive training. As a result, launched a joint platform at the address https://www.umkmkecmayong.com which features a product catalog, shopping cart, as well as order management. This Platform is expected to be a solution to the limitations of conventional marketing that has been dominant in the Mayong region.
A total of 18 MSME actors from various fields of business, such as furniture crafts, convection, monel, to culinary, actively participated in the activities. The participants gained an understanding of the basic principles of digital marketing, then immediately put into practice the use of online store accounts provided. They are trained to upload products and their descriptions, manage catalogs, and process orders through a simulated system. In addition to face-to-face practice, the team also provides one-week online mentoring to ensure participants can operate the platform independently.
The evaluation results showed positive results, as many as 72% of participants understood the basic principles of e-commerce, 67% mastered the use of the platform, and 56% were able to manage online stores, ranging from product stock to payment confirmation. This achievement exceeded the previously set target. Some MSME actors claim to be more confident because they now have their own digital means to expand their market reach. In the future, the service team recommends the development of additional features such as online payments and social media integration to make optimal use of the platform. This activity is a clear proof of the synergy between academics, sub-district governments, and the community in encouraging the digital transformation of rural MSMEs.
